The police have been receiving many complaints recently from passengers who have been pickpocketed on buses, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Leng Kam Lon said during a regular press conference at the PJ headquarters in Zape yesterday.

Leng urged residents and tourists to keep an eye on their valuables in public places, on public buses in particular.

Leng said that a local woman on Tuesday night boarded a bus in Estrada da Baía de Nossa Senhora da Esperança in Taipa heading towards the peninsula. During the bus ride, she took out her mobile phone and put it back into her bag when she had finished using it. After arriving in Avenida de Horta e Costa, she couldn’t find her phone and suspected that it had been stolen on the bus. The mobile phone was worth about HK$5,600.
