According to information provided by the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM), the government is slated to invite tenders for the construction of Macau’s first crematorium next year, with the cost expected to be between 300 million and 400 million patacas, Ku Man Tat, member of the Taipa and Coloane Community Service Consultative Council, said yesterday during a post-meeting press briefing at the Islands District Public Services Centre in Taipa.
During a plenary session in November, IACM President Fonseca Tavares said that the government had decided on the location of Macau’s first crematorium, adding he expected the government to invite bids for its construction in 2018. He said that the planned crematorium will be located in one of the city’s public cemeteries.
According to the bureau’s website, there are currently six public cemeteries in the city – two on the peninsula, Taipa and Coloane each. There are also a number of privately-owned graveyards.
