UK football star David Beckham’s participation in April in a local charity event and the posting of his selfies “aroused a lot of public interest and spread positive energy to [civil] society,” Secretary for Administration and Justice Sonia Chan Hoi Fan said yesterday.
Chan made the remarks in a speech at a reception hosted by the British Consulate-General to celebrate the official birthday of Queen Elizabeth II. UK Consul-General Andrew Heyn represented the 92-year-old British sovereign at the event at Macau Tower, which was attended by dozens of senior government officials and community representatives.
Chan attended the reception on behalf of Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On.
