The statement added that the average daily visitor arrivals throughout the seven-day period reached around 64,000, which is a year-on-year increase of 297 percent compared to last year’s corresponding CNY holiday period.
The Chinese New Year of the Rabbit fell on January 22, i.e., the first day of the first month of the lunar calendar.
On January 24, i.e., the third day of the first month of the lunar calendar, the city recorded over 90,000 visitors, which the statement pointed out was the highest record for a single day since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020. Macau confirmed its first novel coronavirus case on January 22, 2020.
According to a previous MGTO statement released on January 25, Macau recorded 90,391 visitor arrivals on January 24.
Meanwhile, the average occupancy rate of hotel establishments reached 85. 7 percent, yesterday’s statement said, noting that it is a year-on-year increase of 22.4 percentage points.
The statement underlined that the highest occupancy rate of hotel establishments reached 92.1 percent on January 24. Over the CNY period, the average room rate for local hotel establishments, which include hotels, apartment hotels and budget hotels, was around 1,575 patacas, which the statement said is up by nearly 50 percent year-on-year.
Meanwhile, the statement said that the final show of the Chinese New Year Fireworks Display will take place on the Lantern Festival this Sunday, while the float exhibition in Tap Seac Square runs until February 12. The “Strolling Through Almeida Ribeiro – Pilot Project for a Pedestrian Area” will also make its return this Saturday and Sunday.
The statement pointed out that MGTO launched promotional schemes and travel offers to attract visitors to Macau since the local government relaxed COVID-19 border measures.
The statement said that it will continue to move forward with online-offline marketing campaigns, while physical promotional activities have also been planned for this year.
