The Court of Final Appeal (TUI) said in a statement yesterday that it has turned down a joint appeal by four former police officers concerning a deadly assault case for which they were each sentenced to a seven-year prison term in 2015 after a male suspect was beaten to death in a police station in 2007.
According to the statement, while the Court of First Instance (TJB) could not confirm whether the victim was beaten to death by the four defendants or other police officers, it sentenced them each to a seven-year prison term for aggravated assault resulting in the suspect’s death in December 2015 as it could confirm that the four officers “failed to prevent the occurrence” of the fatal beating.
According to the statement, the suspect was stopped by police officers at 1:30 p.m. on March 28, 2007 during an anti-porn operation and taken to the Public Security Police (PSP) headquarters in Zape for further questioning.
