Hundreds of residents yesterday protested against the possible construction of a crematorium in Macau, saying that it is not suitable for the densely populated city to have a crematorium anywhere on its tiny land area of just 30.5 square kilometres.
At the end of March, Macau had a population of 656,700, or 21,531 inhabitants per square kilometre.
The demonstrators urged the government to not only suspend its plan to build Macau’s first crematorium at Taipa Sa Kong Municipal Cemetery but also to cancel the plan for good. They also urged the government not to build any crematorium in the city.
