A confusingly bizarre film about a rock band, Laibach, from the former Yugoslavia as they arrive by invitation in North Korea to perform there, will open this year’s 3rd Macau International Documentary Film Festival at Cinematheque Passion tomorrow.

This year’s festival, themed “Envision/the World”, will feature a total of 28 documentary films from different countries over a three-week period, with “Liberation Day” as the opening film, complemented with a rock party and informal talks prior to the screening all taking place at the cinema located in Travessa da Paixão, a little cobbled alley next to the Ruins of Saint Paul’s.

Programme and Festival Director Penny Lam Kin Kuan told MPD Weekender earlier this week that after two years of organising the festival, the theme and selection of films were decided upon as having some sort of connection with Macau, so that the Macau audience could somehow relate when they watch the films and maybe start a conversation.
