In an operation targeting counterfeit products last week, the Macau Customs Service caught 21 men and women for their involvement in the smuggling of counterfeit sports shirts, seizing a total of 3,879 fake sports brand shirts a low quality.

The Customs Service made the announcement in a press conference in Ilha Verde yesterday.

A customs spokesperson said that customs officers at the Barrier Gate checkpoint last Thursday stopped 15 people trying to smuggle 644 suspected counterfeit sports shirts into Macau. Under questioning, they told officers that they were hired to deliver the items from the mainland to a stairwell of a residential building in the northern district. Officers later raided the spot and seized a further 3,235 suspected pirated polo and T-shirts from six other people, including two local men and a local woman who coordinated the smuggling activities.
