The Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested seven suspects in two flats in Taipa last Tuesday in a crackdown on a cross-border gambling syndicate, a PJ spokesperson said during a regular press conference at the PJ headquarters in Zape on Friday.

The spokesperson said that last Tuesday, the Judiciary Police received a tip-off from their mainland counterparts about a number of mainlanders running an illegal football betting operation in Macau.

According to the spokesperson, the mainland police took action on that day, and arrested nine suspects, including the alleged mastermind, and seized five cars, over 30 bank cards and one million yuan in cash.
