Old Bridge to have rumble strips

The Transport Bureau (DSAT) said yesterday that the central road markings on the Governor Nobre de Carvalho Bridge (commonly known as Old Bridge) will be changed to rumble strips.

According to Wikipedia, rumble strips, also known as alert strips or audible lines, are a road safety feature to alert inattentive drivers of potential danger, by causing a tactile vibration and audible rumbling transmitted through the wheels into the vehicle interior.

The first peninsula-Taipa bridge – with one lane in each direction – opened in 1974. Only public transport vehicles – namely buses and taxis – have been allowed to use the bridge since 2007.
