The owner and a staff member of a telecom shop in Zape have been arrested for scamming customers by not giving them the phones they thought they had purchased, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokeswoman Lei Hon Nei said during a regular press conference yesterday.
Lei identified the two suspects as a 40-year-old local woman surnamed Wu, who is the owner of the shop, and a 29-year-old local man surnamed Ip, who is an employee of the shop. Lei said that one of the victims is a man from the mainland in his forties.
According to Lei, the victim went to the shop on July 24, aiming to buy two smartphones. However, when the victim was there, Ip told him that the model he wanted was not available in the shop. Instead, Ip persuaded the victim to buy another model. The victim eventually bought two phones of the model he was recommended, paying about 11,000 patacas in total.
