Albano Martins, president of Anima - Society for the Protection of Animals in Macau, posted on the animal welfare group’s Facebook page last night that Jolie Cola, the oldest greyhound at the now defunct Macau (Yat Yuen) Canidrome died of natural causes early yesterday morning.
According to Anima’s Facebook page, for the last few days three Australian volunteer vets, one from Australia and two from Hong Kong, all greyhound specialists, had been assessing the health of the canines left behind when the Canidrome closed its doors for the last time at midnight on July 20.
The three vets, named by the Facebook page as Dr. Anthony James, Dr. Rebecca Goode and Dr. Allan Kessell, had triaged the 532 dogs during the three days and on Monday Goode had, according to the page, advised Anima that 12 of the greyhounds were a priority as they were very old and may not live very much longer.
This photo of Jolie Cola, the oldest greyhound at the now defunct Macau (Yat Yuen) Canidrome in Fai Chi Kei, retrieved from Anima’s Facebook page yesterday, is understood to have been taken last week. The Facebook page does not identify the photographer.
