Three non-establishment lawmakers – Ng Kuok Cheong, Sulu Sou Ka Hou and Jose Maria Pereira Coutinho – are asking Legislative Assembly (AL) President Ho Iat Seng why the employment contracts of two legal advisors were recently not renewed.
The trio announced their request in a joint statement released to the media, claiming that they were “shocked” by the nonrenewal of the two contracts. The statement described the two legal advisors’ imminent departure as a “great loss” to the legislature.
The four-member executive board of the legislature is said to have decided recently not to renew the two advisors’ employment contracts, which are understood to expire at the end of the year. According to local media reports, the executive board plans to reorganise the legislature’s legal advisory section and consequently decided not to keep the two advisors.
