Lawmakers-cum-unionists Ella Lei Cheng I and Leong Sun Iok yesterday urged the government to repossess a long-undeveloped plot of land east of the entrance to the Governor Nobre de Carvalho Bridge at the northern coast of Taipa, which was initially slated for an “Ocean World” project when its land concession was granted over two decades ago.

The two directly-elected legislators criticised the government for its slow progress in annulling the plot’s land concession, adding that the situation amounts to a waste of land resources for a small and densely-populated city like Macau.

Macau’s land area amounts to just 30.8 square kilometres. The city had a population of 658,900 at the end of June, resulting in population density of 21,393 residents per square kilometre.
