Telecom operator CTM CEO Vandy Poon Fuk Hei said yesterday his company hopes the government will be able to start granting 5G licences next year so that his company could start the city’s 5G network service in 2020 in line with neighbouring regions.

Poon made the remarks during a press conference held at the Macau Science Centre in Nape about the progress of testing its 5G network, which began this month.

According to Poon, the download speed using a 5G network would be 100 times faster than that of a 4G network. Other key elements of the fifth generation of wireless communication are low latency and the feasibility of mass connections.
