Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Alexis Tam Chon Weng said yesterday that it was not for him to make the final decision on how to solve the controversial issue of housing about 500 greyhounds right next to a retirement home in Coloane, after telling reporters on Monday that he would talk with other policy secretaries to look into relocating the dogs to another location.
Tam made the remarks when speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event at the public Conde de Sao Januario Hospital Centre yesterday.
Reporters yesterday asked him about the remarks he made when he visited the private Asilo Vila Madalena retirement home on Monday. Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On visited the old people’s home the following day with Secretary for Administration and Justice Sonia Chan Hoi Fan and Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM) Chairman Jose Tavares, with Chan on Wednesday telling reporters that the government would evaluate the noise and hygiene situation after some of the greyhounds have been moved into their shipping container kennels next to the senior citizens’ dormitories.
