The Macau (Yat Yuen) Canidrome Co. Ltd. submitted a letter to the government yesterday, saying that it is ready to move about 500 greyhounds to its facility known as the “International Centre for the Rehoming of Greyhounds (Macau)”, located just metres away from a retirement home in Coloane, after its own report shows that the noise from the greyhounds was within an “acceptable” range.

The arrangement to house the greyhounds next to the old people’s home has sparked noise and hygiene concerns from residents at the Asilo Vila Madalena retirement home as well as their family members who have petitioned the government to scrap the project.

Family members of the home’s residents said yesterday they managed to get a copy of the letter, which says that Yat Yuen has completed noise, environmental hygiene and smell management measures at the facility based on the requirements of the government.
