The Yoga Room organised an “Ashtanga and Yin Yoga Retreat” programme in the lush valley of Mae Ann Valley in Chiang Mai recently, which was attended by about a dozen participants.
The yoga retreat took place from September 22 to 25 where, under the guidance of Master of Yoga Megala Sundarrajan, participants got to nourish their mind, body and soul in a natural, serene and tranquil surrounding through practising ashtanga and yin yoga.
The retreat at The Pavana Chiang Mai Resort was designed to take participants deep within their vital sheath to purify and recharge it with prana through pranayama practice, take participants deep within their physical sheath to revitalise it and rejuvenate it through the practice of asanas of the primary and intermediate series of ashtanga yoga, and take them deep within their body and mind to help release physical tension and mental stress through the restorative practice of yin yoga.
Megala, alias Manila, comes from India and has been teaching yoga since 2000. Before becoming a yoga teacher, she worked as a nurse in a hospital in India. She started practicing yoga in her teens, and completed a diploma in naturopathy and yogic science in 2001, teacher’s training and the advanced teacher’s training courses at the International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre in 2004 and 2006 respectively, and has earnt the titles “Yoga Siromani, Teacher of Yoga” and “Yoga Acharya, Master of Yoga”. She also trained in ashtanga yoga under guruji Mr. Pattabhi Jois in Mysore, India in 2006.
Participants said they thoroughly enjoyed the four-day retreat, which had an early bird price of HK$12,500 for a single room, and included return flight tickets, airport transfer to and from the hotel, three nights of accommodation at The Pavana resort, all yoga classes and three vegetarian meals per day.
The yoga studio based in Sheung Wan in Hong Kong, which also has students from Macau, will be organising a yoga retreat in Bali next month.
The upcoming yoga retreat is open to all yogis and yoginis at any level of practice who are looking to strengthen their practice by finding their inner power between the mind and the body.
The five-day retreat to take place among the rice paddies in Ubud includes two yoga classes per day, two strengthening workshops, optional day activities (sunrise volcano trekking, mala workshop, herbal healing jamu workshop), as well as cultural gatherings such as a cacao ceremony and kirtan.
The early bird rate for this Bali retreat is HK$17,800 per person, or full price HK$19,300 per person, for a single room. For those opting for a double or twin room, the early bird rate is HK$14,000 per person, or full price HK$16,500 per person.
The early bird period is valid until October 31, and the programme includes return flights with Cathay Pacific for November 23-27, four nights’ accommodation, meals, airport transfers, and all yoga classes.
