The Social Welfare Bureau (IAS) will provide around 1,200 police officers with two training courses, each three weeks long, on how to handle domestic violence, IAS Vice-President Au Chi Keung said yesterday.

Au made the remarks on the sidelines of a seminar at the Macau Polytechnic Institute (IPM) in Zape. He added that the training would take place before the government-drafted bill on the prevention of domestic violence becomes law.

According to Au, similar training will be given to social workers and staff from the education sector as well. He also said there would be a “family crisis support network” notification mechanism between the bureau, the police and social workers.
