UM students win gold prize at digital economy innovation contest

A student team from the University of Macau (UM) Faculty of Business Administration (FBA) won a gold prize this month at a digital economy innovation and entrepreneurship competition for university students from mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau, according to an UM statement yesterday.

The Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau Digital Economy Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition 2018 was hosted by the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) on October 13. The competition consisted of a business proposal and a 15-minute oral presentation 

The contest drew over 200 teams from the three Chinese jurisdictions. A total of 13 university teams including the University of Hong Kong, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, UM, and the Zhuhai branch of the Beijing Institute of Technology made it to the final.

The winning team consisted of five students, namely Yu Jiatong and Dong Luning, students of Financial Controllership; Shi Weijie, a student of Accounting; as well as Xie Chun and He Yuchen, students of Business Economics. The team was led by Prof Matthew Liu Tingchi from the UM Department of Management and Marketing. Organised by the Sub-Council of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, the competition aimed to provide a platform for young entrepreneurs from the three areas to exchange ideas in order to nurture well-rounded individuals with practical skills in information technology, the statement pointed out.
