Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) Director Wong Chi Hong said yesterday the government was striving to start the legislative process of drafting a bill on the implementation of a statutory minimum wage for all workers as soon as possible.

Wong made the remarks when replying to an oral interpellation by indirectly-elected lawmakers-cum-unionist Lei Chan U during a plenary session of the legislature. Lei is a vice-president of the Macau Federation of Trade Unions (commonly known as Gung Luen).

In his interpellation, Lei asked the government whether it has reviewed the amount of the statutory minimum wage for cleaners and doormen employed by the property management sector every year, as required by law, since it has been implemented for almost three years.
