Two men were arrested on Wednesday evening in a luxury residential building in Nam Van from where they operated a fake base station to be used to send out a huge amount of gambling and scam messages during the Macau Grand Prix, which started with qualifying and practice races yesterday.
A Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesperson said on Wednesday that from residents’ reports and during their patrols, they suspected a criminal organisation of renting a flat around the Avenida da Amizade area and close to the Guia Circuit to set up a fake base station.
After investigating, the police narrowed down the investigation to a flat in the Nam Van area and on Wednesday, they raided the flat, where they arrested a 44-year-old mainland man and seized four sets of fake base station equipment, including mobile phones, routers, satellites and antennas .
