A local teenager bought a fake Macau permanent resident ID card (BIR) from a mainland woman via WeChat, a messaging app, “for fun and out of curiosity”, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Cheong Heon Fan said during a regular press conference yesterday.

According to Cheong, at midday on Tuesday the Public Security Police received a report from the Identification Services Bureau (DSI) that a suspected bogus Macau ID had been used to apply for a Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) passport, and sent police officers to the scene to investigate.

The police found that a father in his fifties, a local businessman, took his 17-year-old son, who is studying abroad, to the Identification Services Bureau on Tuesday to apply for a Macau SAR passport. While at the bureau, the son needed to go to the toilet and gave his wallet to his father so that he could deal with the passport application process if the teen was called while he was in the bathroom.
