A Mongolian wrestler has been arrested on suspicion of trying to steal a woman’s belongings from her backpack, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Lei Kai Sang said yesterday.

Lei revealed details of the case during a regular press conference at the Judiciary Police (PJ) headquarters in Zape.

On Sunday night, PSP officers in a police vehicle saw the 26-year-old suspect being chased by a man at the junction of Avenida de Horta e Costa and Estrada de Coelho do Amaral. The officers stopped the car, jumped out and intercepted the suspect, Lei said. The local man said the suspect had put his hand into the backpack carried by his girlfriend, who told police that the backpack contained a wallet with 100 yuan and 430 patacas in cash. The woman is an 18-year-old local student.

This undated handout photo released by the Public Security Police (PSP) yesterday shows the hooded Mongolian suspect and evidence seized by the police.
