A man from the mainland cheated a Filipino man in the Praça de Ponte e Horta neighbourhood by selling him a fake mobile phone, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Ho Ka Kit said yesterday at a regular press conference.

At 11:30 a.m. on December 1, the 20-year-old Filipino surnamed de Castro was approached by the suspect, surnamed Chang, a 50-year-old from the mainland. Chang told the victim that he urgently needed money and was selling a brand-new phone for 2,500 patacas, according to Ho.

The victim believed the suspect and bought the phone. However, when the victim got home and looked at the phone closely, he found that the phone was a counterfeit and realised that he had been cheated but did not report it to the police, said Ho.
