Public Prosecutor-General Ip Son Sang described yesterday the illegal provision of accommodation in the city as a “complicated and sensitive” issue. He said that the possible criminalisation of the operation of illegal inns would need a careful study and thorough discussions in civil society.
The chief prosecutor’s remarks came after the strikingly opposing views recently expressed by Secretary for Security Wong Sio Chak and Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Alexis Tam Chon Weng on how to tackle the illegal provision of accommodation services in residential buildings.
Ip made the remarks while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the annual “Walk for a Million” charity event outside Macau Tower.
