Chui Talks After Meeting Xi & Li

According to a statement by the Macau Government Information Bureau (GCS),Chui revealed that the central government has approved his government’s flood gate project in an attempt to control Macau’s tides.

Chui said he was “very satisfied” with the central government’s green light to the project. He was quick to add that the project had still to get off the ground but that the plan had already been completed.. Chui also said that his government had already launched several regional cooperation plans. Asked by the media about his plans after ending his current 5-year term on December 19 next year, Chui said he intended to rest for a while after working for the government for 20 years. He also said his government would ensure a smooth transition to his successor, adding that the issue of Macau’s next chief executive had not come up during his 4-day annual duty visit to the capital which ends today. Before becoming chief executive in 2009, Chui served as the Macau Special Administrative Region’s policy secretary for social affairs and culture for 10 years. Chui, 61, holds a PhD in Public Health from the University of Oklahoma. Macau’s chief executives can only serve two 5-year consecutive terms. Caption: Staff Reporter Photo: GCS
