Man gives illegal money changer 200 fake HK$1,000 notes: police

The Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested a man from the mainland in the early hours of Sunday for deceiving a female money changer by giving her 200 fake HK$1,000 notes, PJ spokesman Leng Kam Lon said during a special press conference yesterday.

Leng identified the suspect as a 29-year-old surnamed Zhang. The victim, a female mainlander in her thirties, runs an illegal currency exchange business in and around local casinos.

According to Leng, the victim met Zhang in a casino in Zape on Saturday. Zhang told the victim that he wanted to transfer yuan equivalent to HK$200,000 back to the mainland, and they agreed to carry out the transaction later that day – the victim agreed to transfer 178,000 yuan to the mainland for Zhang and to receive HK$200,000 in exchange.
