A 62-year-old retiree surnamed Chong who was arrested late last month for building an unlicensed outdoor gym on Ilha Verde Hill was nabbed again on Tuesday because he was trying to “repair” the damage that he had caused, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Leng Kam Lon said at a regular press conference yesterday.
Leng said that the police received a report from the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) who found a 10-metre-by 0.3-metre area covered with weeds on Ilha Verde Hill. When police officers went to the scene, they found two old glue buckets that Chong had been using to water the plants.
When questioned, Chong told the police that he was worried about the damage he had caused and about soil erosion, insisting that he merely wanted to “rectify” it by collecting weeds from the Duck Channel in Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park on Sunday and replanted them on the hill site, according to Leng.
