A staff member of a local petroleum company has been defrauded out of US$13,750 (111,020 patacas) through email while contacting a company in Singapore to assess the oil industry in the Philippines, Judiciary Police (PJ) Choi Ian Fai spokesman said at a regular press conference yesterday.
Choi said that the victim, whose gender was not revealed, is a non-resident worker employed by the local petroleum company. The employee was exchanging emails with a counterpart at a Singaporean firm that the local company is doing business with.
The two companies have been contacting each other by email about assessing the oil industry in the Philippines and possible business deals, according to Choi.
