Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Alexis Tam Chon Weng said yesterday that the government expects the newly-completed government office building in Pac On in Taipa to enable a decrease of 21 million patacas annually in its cost of renting office space in private properties.
Tam made the remarks when replying to an oral interpellation by directly-elected lawmaker-cum-unionist Ella Lei Cheng I during a plenary session of the legislature.
In her interpellation, Lei said that the government spends a large sum of money renting office space in private properties for public entities every year. She said that the government spent 810 million patacas in 2016 on rental payments for office and storage space, adding that the payments rose to 883 million patacas in 2017 and were estimated to have risen to 960 million patacas last year.
