Policeman shoots, wounds knife-wielding robber

A Judiciary Police (PJ) officer fired a shot and wounded an illegal immigrant from the mainland after the latter had pounced on the officer with a knife in Iao Hon district yesterday morning, several hours after he had snatched a handbag from a table in a restaurant in Toi San district and injured a man who had given chase, the Judiciary Police (PJ) said yesterday.

The shooting happened after several PJ officers had found the robbery suspect walking in Iao Hon district and approached him. They had been searching for the robber after the victim had reported the case to the police, according to the Judiciary Police.

The male robbery suspect-cum-illegal immigrant was identified as a 31-year-old surnamed Fu, who was not in a life-threatening condition following emergency treatment.
