The Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested a female domestic helper from the Philippines last week for stealing cash and valuables worth 75,000 patacas from her employer’s home, PJ spokeswoman Lei Hon Nei said during a regular press conference yesterday.

The suspect stole the cash and valuables from her employer’s home in Taipa when the family was away on a trip outside Macau, according to Lei. The domestic helper decided to steal the possessions from her employer after becoming addicted to gambling.

Lei identified the suspect as a 43-year-old surnamed Forones who was hired as a domestic helper by the family about four years ago.

When the family returned from their trip on Friday, the wife discovered that her watch, cash-filled “lai see” red envelopes and some Chinese zodiac commemorative notes that she had put in a wardrobe drawer in her bedroom had disappeared, Lei said.
