The Judiciary Police (PJ) have arrested two loan sharks from the mainland who falsely imprisoned a gambler in a residential unit used as an illegal inn after the victim was unable to repay a gambling loan, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokeswoman Lei Hon Nei said during a regular press conference yesterday.
Lei identified the two male suspects as a 21-year-old and a 36-year-old. The victim is also a mainlander.
On Saturday afternoon, the victim got a gambling loan of HK$100,000 from the two loan sharks in a casino in Zape, Lei said. According to the deal, the victim had to pay 30,000 yuan (HK$34,760) first before obtaining the gambling loan, Lei said, pointing out that besides the “down payment” of 30,000 yuan, a “commission” of HK$10,000 was deducted from the gambling loan, which was paid out in gambling chips.
