The Zhuhai Public Security Bureau yesterday handed to the Judiciary Police (PJ) a local man who was sentenced in absentia to 10 years and six months in prison in Macau for causing the death of two inmates and the serious injuries of another inmate during a prison riot which he organised in 1998 when he was behind bars for several crimes such as usury in the local jail.
Senior PJ officer Leong Kuok Hei briefed reporters about the case after the transfer of the 54-year-old man in the area between Zhuhai’s Gongbei and Macau’s Barrier Gate border checkpoints.
While the case happened in 1998 in the prison in Coloane, the Court of First Instance (TJB) only in 2014 announced the 10-year-six-month prison sentence for the man, surnamed Lei, who had been released from jail in 2002 after serving time for several other crimes, according to Leong.
