The police arrested a woman from the mainland last Saturday for cheating a female compatriot out of over two million patacas by persuading the victim to put money into a scheme for them to jointly run a lottery website, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Leng Kam Lon said in a regular press conference yesterday.
Leng identified the suspect as a 38-year-old surnamed Weng who told the police that she is unemployed. The victim is a businesswoman in her thirties.
According to Leng, the suspect decided to defraud the businesswoman after she could not return a gambling loan of HK$300,000 to the victim.
