The new law regulating the city’s taxi sector, according to which the fines for various violations will significantly increase – such as for refusing to pick up passengers and overcharging, will take effect 90 days after its promulgation in the Official Gazette (BO) yesterday.

The bill on the city’s taxi sector was passed by the Legislative Assembly (AL) last month, following a review by the legislature’s 3rd Standing Committee since its outline was passed by legislators in April last year.

The new taxi law, which has 41 articles, replaces the existing taxi regulation which came into force in November 1999 – i.e. shortly before the establishment of the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR).
