Residents pay respects to their ancestors at Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery in Rua da Piedade yesterday, coinciding with the Ching Ming Festival, or Tomb-Sweeping Day, a tradition to celebrate and honour those who have passed away through grave-sweeping, offering food to one’s forebears and burning joss paper. A resident told reporters that while food prices had gone up by 10 to 20 percent since last year, her family had not cut back on their offerings, and spent about 1,000 patacas on the festival this time.
