The mostly elderly members of the Macau Family Reunion Federation are demanding to meet Secretary for Administration and Justice Sonia Chan Hoi Fan on April 13, Lei Iok Lan, president of the federation, told The Macau Post Daily in a tent set up by her group in Largo do Senado on Friday.

Their ongoing protest began there on March 2, calling for the government’s response to the members’ long-standing demand that their grown-up mainland-born children be allowed to move to Macau.

Lei said that her group, which earlier had hoped to meet Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On, did not “go to” Government Headquarters on March 23 as planned because Chui was attending the annual Boao Forum for Asia in Hainan. “It was raining heavily that day. The ground was slippery, which was dangerous for the elderly,” Lei added.
