A local woman has fallen victim to an online love scam, in which she lost 272,600 patacas, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Lai Man Vai said during a regular press conference yesterday.
Lai said that the suspect is a Chinese man who told the victim that he had a European passport. His surname was not released. The victim is a woman in her fifties. She told the police she is a casino worker. Her surname was not released either.
According to Lai, the victim told the police that she met a man who told her that he was working in Europe through an online social platform last month, after which they started an online relationship and stayed in touch through an app. They never met face to face.
