The Macau Customs Service said in a statement yesterday that its officers and their counterparts in Zhuhai have jointly busted a case in which a male snakehead was assisting two mainlanders to illegally enter Macau and five mainlanders who had illegally entered Macau to leave the city using a motor boat.
In Cantonese jargon, people smugglers are known as “snakeheads”.
The snakehead, also a mainlander, and five of the seven male illegal immigrants were caught by Macau customs officers on Saturday, while the other two male illegal immigrants were caught by their counterparts on the mainland, according to the statement.
