World Health Organisation (WHO) Regional Director for the Western Pacific Shin Young-soo said in Macau yesterday that a WHO expert team which visited the city last month determined that the air expelled from the “highly effective filtration facility” in the government’s planned infectious disease centre will be safe, according to a statement released by the Health Bureau (SSM) last night.
The South Korean medical expert made the remarks during a meeting with representatives from local medical institutions and senior officials including SSM Director Lei Chin Ion, the statement said, adding that Shin visited Macau on Monday and yesterday. Shin also met Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On at Government Headquarters yesterday, according to a statement by Chui’s office last night.
According to the SSM statement, the WHO’s four-member team of experts was invited by the Health Bureau to visit Macau on March 23-25. The team determined that the future infectious disease centre, to be located near the public Conde de Sao Januario Hospital Centre (CHCSJ), will “generally” be in line with the global health agency’s technical suggestions in aspects such as the ventilation, cleaning supplies and the isolation of polluted waste, as well as the design of its isolation rooms.
