A 32-year-old local man has come down with measles after visiting Thailand, pushing the total number of measles cases reported in Macau to 28 so far this year, the Health Bureau (SSM) said in a statement yesterday.
According to the statement, the man came down with a fever, sore throat, muscle and joint pain on Monday. He began to get a rash on his face, neck and limbs on Tuesday and then sought treatment at the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre. The man was diagnosed with measles by the bureau’s Public Health Laboratory yesterday, the statement said.
The man, who was still running a fever at the time of the release of the statement, was born in Macau and previously vaccinated against measles, according to the statement, which said that he visited Bangkok and Pattaya between March 14 and 19. The bureau has therefore classified the case as an imported case, the statement said.
