Cheng Ming Festival is one of the most important traditional Chinese holidays of the year. It is a time for all members of the family to gather at the graves of their ancestors to worship by dedicating offerings, such as burning so-called hell banknotes and “luxurious” paper products. During this period, joss stick shops enjoy one of their busiest seasons.
The festival is spelt Ching Ming in Hong Kong, Qingming in mainland China and Qing Ming in Taiwan.
Cheng Ming Festival is also known as the Tomb-Sweeping Festival, which is usually on April 5 every year, or the 15th day after the Spring Equinox, which is one of the 24 solar terms on the Chinese calendar.
