CTM CEO Vandy Poon Fuk Hei said yesterday it was time to end the 2G network service so that resources could be put to use more efficiently for telecom development.

Poon made the comments while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the telecom operator’s “CTM x Tencent Tennovation” event that showcased the latest solutions that Tencent can offer through its cloud-based services, at Galaxy Macau’s JW Marriott Hotel.

In response to the government’s announcement on Monday that local mobile network providers could decide to keep or drop their 2G service from August 1, Poon said it was time now to end 2G.
