The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Macau Garrison said in a statement yesterday that Zhou Wugang, the political commissar of the army’s local garrison, has returned to the mainland for a new post in the army, according to an order issued by President Xi Jinping, who chairs the Central Military Commission (CMC).

Before leaving Macau, Zhou visited Chief Executive Chui Sai On and his predecessor Edmund Ho Hau Wah, who is now a vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), according to the statement, which did not mention when he left.

The statement said that the post of political commissar is vacant temporarily following Zhou’s departure.
