A lawmaker and a travel industry representative pointed out yesterday that any temporary crowd control measures impact residents’ daily lives, complaining that the government has still not liaised with residents and merchants living or working near busy tourist spots about the upcoming May Day Golden Week crowd control measures so that they could not prepare well for the expected increase in the number of visitors.
The Collective Wisdom Policy Centre think tank yesterday held a forum at Macao Daily News Building about the diversion of tourists from overcrowded tourist spots during major festivals and events. It was attended by nearly 50 citizens and media representatives.
Lawmaker Alan Ho Ion Sang noted that the May Day Golden Week is coming soon and a significant increase in the number of visitor arrivals could be expected. However, the residents and merchants who live or run their businesses near tourist hotspots had still not received any crowd control plans from the government by yesterday, according to Ho.
