The Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested a local woman yesterday for allegedly defrauding three victims, a man and two women, out of about H$5 million, as she claimed that she could buy the latest smartphones at discounted prices for resale with a three-percent return on investment (ROI), PJ spokesman Leng Kam Lon said during a regular press conference yesterday.

According to Leng, the suspect is a 35-year-old local surnamed Lei. The female victims are Lei’s former secondary school classmates. The male victim and Lei knew each other through an online business. The local victims’ surnames were not released.

On October in 2017, Lei convinced the trio to invest in her smartphone resale scheme. She claimed that she was able to buy the latest smartphone models at discounted market prices. She promised to pay the three investors in about 10 day intervals.
