A male illegal immigrant (II) who escaped early last week while waiting for transport to be deported to the mainland was apprehended by the Judiciary Police (PJ) last Thursday, PJ spokesperson Ho Chan Nam announced during a special press conference, adding that the escapee told the police that he decided to escape as he was afraid that he would be detained by the mainland police following his deportation.
During the press conference on Friday, Ho identified the escapee as a 31-year-old surnamed Wang from Jiangxi province.
After the II escaped last Monday while waiting to be taken away in a Macau Customs Service vehicle after questioning at the Public Prosecution Office (MP) in Nape, the Customs Service decided not to disclose the escape until last Wednesday, when it said in a statement that it made the decision in order not to affect the manhunt for the escapee.
