The police said yesterday that the project – which started last week – to replace three of the six escalators with new ones at the entrance of the departure hall of the Barrier Gate checkpoint, in which it is expected that the three new escalators can be used for 30 years.

The Public Security Police (PSP), Macau Public Security Forces Affairs Bureau (DSFSM) and Transport Bureau (DSAT) hosted a joint press conference in a pressroom at the Barrier Gate checkpoint yesterday to brief the media about the latest progress of the project and provisional measures aiming to alleviate the overcrowding around the entrance of the departure hall resulting from the ongoing project.

There are six escalators at the entrance of the departure hall of the Barrier Gate checkpoint going up to the first floor where the immigration counters are located. The six escalators are installed in two clusters with each cluster comprising three units. Travellers can also choose to use the stairs or the lifts going up to the first floor.
